The book contains a summary of modern knowledge on the biology of rare and endangered species and subspecies of mammals, mainly those included in the Red Books of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the USSR. A list of extinct mammals is given, the issue of protecting, restoring and increasing the number of mammals is discussed, ways of their rational use are considered.
