The materials of this book are translations of selected texts of Kabardian folklore. The texts were recorded or collected by the Kabardino-Balkarian Research Institute of National Culture with the help of the Union of Soviet Writers of the Kabardino-Balkarian Autonomous Region and with the great assistance of a number of Kabardian comrades who reported their notes to the Institute. As collectors of folklore worked tt. B. Balkarov, associate professor T. Borukaev, B. Kazhaeva, S. Kazhaev, P. Kishokov, A. Pshenokov, T. Sheretlokov, A. Shortanov and especially the late N. Tsagov, who had long recorded songs and legends of the Kabardian people.
