According to the 1947 rules for designating variable stars, all stars with reliably established brightness variability, for which a possible type of variability can be indicated, are subject to final designation and inclusion in the General Catalog of Variable Stars. Variable stars that do not meet these conditions are included in the catalogs of stars suspected of brightness variability.
