Readers are offered a book by the Russian philologist M.N. Speransky, dedicated to the study of cryptographic systems in South Slavic and Russian writing monuments. It is shown that Slavic systems of cryptography as later in origin in most cases are directly or indirectly dependent on Greek-Byzantine, less often Latin, which, in turn, bear traces of the influence of Eastern letters.
