This book tells about the fate of the Cossacks who fought on the side of Germany against the Soviet Union during World War II. The drama of what was happening culminated in the May days of 1945 on the land of Austria, when in Judenburg the British occupation authorities forcibly extradited 50 thousand Cossacks to the Red Army, which for most of them was tantamount to a death sentence. Lies, delusions, broken promises and betrayal accompanied the forced repatriation of people whose only desire was to lead a free life. After the October Revolution of 1917 in Russia, the Don, Kuban, Terek Cossacks desperately resisted the Bolsheviks, who wanted to deprive them of their right to liberty and their own way of life.
