Nikolai Semenovich Leskov (1831-1895) - Russian writer. As a result of fruitful literary work in 1889-1893, Leskov compiled and published with A. S. Suvorin "Complete Works" in 12 volumes, which included most of his works of art. L. N. Tolstoy spoke of Leskov as "the most Russian of our writers," A. P. Chekhov considered him, along with I. Turgenev, one of his main teachers. According to M. Gorky, "as an artist of the word N. S. Leskov is quite worthy to stand next to such creators of Russian literature as L. Tolstoy, Gogol, Turgenev, Goncharov."
