Essay "The Trade Union Movement in Italy," written by the young Italian progressive publicist and historian Giorgio Candeloro, is the first and, so far, only attempt to give an overview of the history of the development of the trade union struggle of Italian workers and trade union organizations, from their first steps in the middle of the last century to the present day, when the huge scale, unity and cohesion of the trade union movement in Italy turned it into a mighty stronghold of democratic gains and freedoms of the working class, workers and the whole people, in the great instrument of the struggle for a better future, peace and independence of the country.
