"Volokolamsk Highway" - the story of Alexander Beck, one of the central works in the work of the writer. It was written in 1942-1944. It was first published in 1943 under the name "Panfilovtsy at the first frontier" in the magazine "Banner." It tells about the feat of Soviet soldiers and officers from the 1st battalion 1073 joint venture of the 316th division (later the 8th Guards Rifle Division), Major General Panfilov, who fought and gave their lives in a battle with the German invaders near Moscow in the Volokolamsk direction in the fall and winter of 1941.
