Despite the thematic diversity of S.P. Obnorsky's research, all his scientific activity was subordinated to one problem - the problem of the formation and further development of the Russian literary language. To this end, he studied the language of the oldest monuments, the language of the works of our classical writers, the rich data of folk dialects, the testimony of other Slavic languages.
