"Memory of Azov" - armored (semi-armored) frigate of the Russian fleet. Named after the sailing battleship Azov, who distinguished himself in the battle of Navarin. The St. George flag, which was awarded the first "Azov" for that battle, passed to the "Memory of Azov." Laid down in 1886 at the Baltic Shipyard, launched in 1888, entered service in 1890 and was assigned to the guards naval crew. In 1918, "Memory of Azov" was the flagship of the Russian naval commander in providing the Ice campaign of the fleet from Helsingfors to Kronstadt. Having conducted more than 250 ships, "Memory of Azov" among the last on May 6 left Helsingfors. On the night of August 18, 1919, English sailors conducted a combined offensive operation to destroy warships in Kronstadt harbor: seven English torpedo boats broke into the harbor at dawn. Struck by two torpedoes, the ship lay on the ground with a roll of about 60 ° on board towards the exit from the harbor. Over the next six years, the half-flooded skeleton of the ship lay at the bottom of the Kronstadt harbor. The work planned for 1921 to lift it was postponed and only in December 1923 was completed. On November 16, 1924, the raised ship was introduced into the Kronstadt dock and from April 16, 1925, after sealing all the holes, it was used as a warehouse. On November 25, 1925, the cruiser Pamyat Azov was officially excluded from the list of ships of the RKKF and dismantled in 1927-1929.
