These memoirs belong to the pen of a direct and active participant in the events described - the Don Cossack Alexander Vasilyevich Golubintsev (1882-1963). The organizer and leader of the uprising against Soviet power in the north-east of the Don, later the head of horse formations in the outbreak of civil war in southern Russia, recreates before the readers a reliable and picturesque panorama of the struggle of the Ust-Medveditsky Cossacks with the Red Army. Particular attention in the memoirs is paid to the raid of General Mamontov on the rear of the Bolshevik Southern Front and the bloody battles for Tsaritsyn.
