Derbend-name ("The Book of Derbent") is the famous historical work of Muhammad Awabi Aktashi from Andirey. The book is a first-class source on the history of the East Caucasus during the Arab-Khazar wars and the Islamization of the Kumyks, contains very valuable information on the historical geography of Khazaria, the history and origin of shamkhals, the medieval city of Targu (Tarki), Anji, Semender. The Moldavian ruler, later the Russian prince D. Kantemir in 1722 first translated Derbend-name into Latin and thereby introduced it into scientific circulation. This work among the Kumyks was in numerous lists and corresponded over the centuries, in many villages lived elders, storytellers (plots) who knew the whole book by heart. One of the Derbend-name lists was presented by the ruler of Derbent Imam-Kuli bey to Peter I in 1722 during the Persian campaign.
