Various problems of elementary mathematics related to the search for extreme values ​ ​ of a function or the choice of the best (optimal) solution under given restrictions (lowest cost, shortest path, etc.) are considered. Much attention is paid to geometric problems for extremum and problems with a parameter, the relationship of various branches of mathematics, its connection with other sciences and the role of this science in the daily practical activities of people.
