The monograph is devoted to combustion processes that are used for direct synthesis of materials. Discovered about 45 years ago in Russia, these processes served to create a method of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS), which was widely recognized in world science and technology. The book analyzes and summarizes the experimental and theoretical results for the entire period of the existence of SHS, as well as the experience of industrial use of this method.
