The Great French Revolution is one of the brightest pages in the history of mankind. Its main events took place in Paris, where the people stormed the Bastille and overthrew the monarchy, where the principles of freedom, equality and brotherhood were proclaimed from the rostrum of the Convention, where revolutionaries exterminated each other in a bloody struggle for power. At the end of the 19th century, the famous French historian Georges Lenotre first tried to reconstruct the Parisian episodes of the revolution, painstakingly recreating the flavor of that time, including the layout of houses, furniture and clothes of Parisians. Robespierre and Danton, Queen Marie Antoinette and the obscure sans-culottes come to life on its pages. Lenotre's book became a classic in France and was reprinted many times.
