From the author: "Four years separate us from the day when the insane mob, led by a bunch of fanatics and newcomers, alien to Russia, invaders of power, reigned over our unfortunate, shocked by the mediocre revolution, Motherland. Since then, I had to connect my life with that Army, which for three years honestly fought against the red dominance in the South of Russia. We knew both the joy of victory and the bitterness of grave disappointments. These three years can be divided into three defined periods. The first heroic period of the epic of Gen. Alekseev and Gen. Kornilov, which ended with the second Kuban campaign and the death of the founder of the Army, Gen. Alekseev, the second period of the struggle of Gen. Denikin and the third struggle of Gen. Wrangel in the Crimea. There is also a fourth period of great passion for the Army in a foreign land. In this book I only touch upon the first period - the founding of the Army, the first legendary Kuban campaign and the events from November 1917 to November 1918."
