The book shows the history of the development of the political struggle in Cuba in 1939-1952, when the forces that carried out the popular revolution several years later were already ripening. The revolution, which grew up on the internal conditions of Cuba, was growing, but the establishment of the bloody dictatorship of Batista in 1952 was temporarily delayed. The terror of the internal reaction, based on the support of the US imperialists, helped the ruling classes of the country only to hold out for several more years, but could not stop the growth of the revolutionary movement.
