Asteria is a small town on the East Coast, where a seventeen-year-old girl, Ariadne Black, moves. Ariadne lost her family and will now have to live with her two mum sisters - Noreen and Mary-Lynette Montfort. Seemingly kind and caring, they are locked in the four walls of their old Montfort-l'Amory mansion. Soon, Ari notices that the inhabitants of Asteria do not like her aunts at all. Moreover, the neighbors are afraid of them. But why? And most importantly - should Ari be afraid of herself?
