Prince Oleg, nicknamed "Prophetic," ruled in Novgorod at the end of the 9th century as the successor of Rurik and the "uncle" (educator) of his son Igor. He captured Kyiv, uniting the two main centers of Ancient Russia, made a daring campaign against Constantinople with his Varangian squad, fought in the Caucasus and the shores of the Caspian. In addition, almost nothing is known about the life and mysterious death of Oleg. Legends about his deeds were reflected in the first Russian chronicle, the Tale of Bygone Years, and later embodied in the "History" by N.M. Karamzin and the famous "Song of the Thing Oleg" by A.S. Pushkin. The book of the famous historian Yevgeny Pchelov is the first attempt to reconstruct the biography of Oleg-Helga based on a wide range of Old Russian, Scandinavian, Byzantine and eastern sources of the era when the multinational Old Russian state was created by the efforts of the "leading" prince in eastern Europe.
