The lawyer is privileged not to accept the fact proposed to him unconditionally. He considers it his duty to delve into the testimony, find and identify their source and assess their reliability before recognizing this fact as proven. Neither the reputation of venerable historians and scientists of ancient times, nor the authority and sacred inviolability of Scripture can prevent him from fulfilling his duty: to weigh and evaluate every detail of the testimony on its merits.
