In 1995, the Board of the Russian Bible Society decided to prepare a translation of the Bible into modern Russian. The New Testament part of the translation was based on the works of V.N. Kuznetsova, undertaken with the blessing and with the direct participation of Fr. Alexander Menya. The project participants were guided by modern translation principles developed in the 40s. XX century famous linguist Eugene Nayda (Eugene Nida) and successfully embodied in many translations of the Holy Scriptures. This used the most authoritative exegetical and textual comments on the books of the New Testament and took into account the experience of Good News Bible, New International Version, New Jerusalem Bible, Revised English Bible, New Living Translation, Die Bibel in heutigem Deutsch, Santa Biblia: DiosHabla hoy. Much attention was paid to reflecting the features of the style of New Testament authors by means of the modern language.
