The indigenous people of Haiti, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Jamaica were the first of the inhabitants of the New World to meet Europeans at the end of the 15th century and experience the consequences of this "meeting." New social norms and a system of labor service were imposed on them, which for half a century not only destroyed the previous way of life, but also led to the disappearance of the former peoples as ethnic units. At the same time, many elements of Aboriginal culture, mainly in the material sphere, moved to the new population of the islands, European, African and mixed descent.
