Saint Catherine of Siena, an Italian religious activist and writer, is one of the figures who determine the appearance of the era in which she had to live. The scale of Catherine's personality is such that today interest in her does not fade away. Her biography and writings are studied in different countries, and not only by Catholics, and her image and ideas inspired many cultural figures: artists who captured the saint on their canvases (among them - both contemporaries of Catherine Andrea Vanni, Giovanni di Paolo, and many later painters), and writers who dedicated whole works to her (in particular, M.I. Tchaikovsky, A.M. Allen, A.R. Bandini). Catherine of Siena is recognized as heavenly patroness of Rome, Italy (along with St. Francis of Assisi), the Roman Catholic Church, as well as the media and communication. All over the world there are societies, monastic congregations and communities named after Catherine.
