Acquaintance with the materials of the Kostroma State Archive helped to establish the construction time of most of the houses presented in the album. The age of some houses is set on the basis of questions from old-timers. The history of the oldest wooden buildings was traced only to 1819. The purpose of the album is to show Kostroma woodcarving, its development during the 19th and early 20th centuries along with the development of wooden architecture. Photos of the album reproduce not only wood carvings, but also some of the most architecturally interesting wooden buildings.
