The monograph on extensive archaeological material studied the female dress of the population of the Central and Western Ciscaucasia during the era of the Great Migration of Peoples. The costume features of the Alan, Proto-Adyg and East German groups living in this region at the end of the 4th - middle of the 6th centuries were revealed. Based on the data of the funeral equipment, a hierarchy of women's costumes was established, which allows us to judge the degree of property and social stratification of ancient tribes. Based on the study of foreign elements of the dress, external cultural, economic and political ties of the North Caucasus with Byzantium, Sassanid Iran, Transcaucasia, Central Europe and steppe regions are shown, the phenomenon of prestigious "princely" fashion is revealed, testifying to the inclusion of the ancient population of the North Caucasus in the pan-European cultural area of the early Middle Ages.
