The name of Nikolai Alexandrovich Berdyaev (1874-1948) is inscribed in the history of Russian and world culture. An outstanding philosopher, he was expelled in 1922 from Soviet Russia along with other philosophers and writers - these "fragments of the past" were not needed to build a "new life." In exile, Berdyaev became the most famous Russian philosopher. His books were awaited as revelations, the journal "Way" published by him was for many years one of the most authoritative publications, and the "Russian Scientific Institute" established by Berdyaev set the tone in the philosophical disputes of Europe.
