The monograph of famous Italian scientists contains a very detailed and at the same time accessible presentation of a method for accurately integrating a number of classes of nonlinear partial differential equations (based on the study of the spectral properties of some linear differential operators), which gave rise to the development of a new field of mathematical physics called the theory of solitons.
