The book is dedicated to the suffering, love and great feat of the monk Eustratius Postnik, who in 1097 was captured by the Polovtsy and hijacked along with other Slavs to the Crimea, to Chersonesos (present-day Sevastopol), where the slave trade flourished in those days. For abandoning the Christian faith in exchange for life, the monk is executed, exactly reproducing the execution of Jesus Christ. The book reflects the life of Ancient Russia, the Polovtsian steppes, the war and the battle of the Polovtsy with the Russians, Hungarians, Pechenegs, Byzantines for life and possession of the steppe. Byzantium is represented by the life of Emperor Alexei Komnin and his entourage. The life of the ancient Slavs, Jews is described by the life of Kyiv and the city-polis of Chersonesos.
