Andrei Gipping - historian of Ingermanland (1788-1862), a Finnish priest sent by the Finnish Senate to St. Petersburg, he began to collect materials for the history of ancient Ingria and published, in Swedish, an overview of Izhora history (Helsingf., 1836); the second part of his work in a manuscript in Russian, "Neva and Nuenskans, or Introduction to the History of St. Petersburg," Gipping submitted to the Academy of Sciences, which awarded him one of the Demidov awards.
