The beginning of the XIV century in the history of North-Eastern Russia was a turning point and the beginning of a new era in interstate and inter-princely relations. With the departure of the sons of Alexander Nevsky from the stage, new characters come to the fore - such as the Tver prince Mikhail Yaroslavich and the ambitious Moscow prince Yuri Daniilovich. The political alignment in the Horde is also changing - the long turmoil of the late 13th century ends with the victory of Khan Tokhta over Temnik Nogai, and this victory had a serious impact on inter-princely relations in Russia. Yuri Moskovsky tried to intercept the label for a great reign from Mikhail Tversky, and this attempt marked the beginning of a long rivalry between the Moscow and Tver princely houses for dominance in North-Eastern Russia.
