This is a story about how an ordinary boy who was born in tsarist Russia, received an education (already in Soviet times), became an engineer, and then a scientist. Through his whole life, chess passed him; they made you think, strive for the truth - otherwise you won't win at the chess table - and tempered your character. These "chess" qualities were later used both in engineering and in cybernetics.
