The book tells about the history of the adoption of Prohibition in the United States, anti-alcohol legislation in America, and critically examines its socio-economic consequences. The time of Prohibition is the twenties, but the corresponding ideas and attitudes were formed much earlier. Since the mid-19th century, attempts have been made, to one degree or another, to limit alcohol consumption. In 1846, Maine was the first to ban alcohol, some states followed suit, but after the Civil War this law was repealed.
