The book is based on the lectures of the American mathematician R. Steinberg, given by him at Yale University (USA). Although the volume of the book is small, it gives, apparently, the most complete of the existing exposition of the theory of Chevalley groups - one of the important branches of mathematics, combining the ideas of algebra, analysis and number theory.
