The Orthodox clergy not only blessed soldiers for military work, not only prayed for the gift of "victory for the resistance," but often took part in the military work itself, showing unparalleled courage and amazing courage. During the war, the priest encouraged the cowardly, carried out the wounded from the battlefield and looked after them, accepted the confession of the dying, communed them with the Holy Gifts and buried those killed on the battlefield. He also inspired the soldiers with his personal example, going into battle ahead of the attackers with the Cross in his hands.
