The proposed book contains, first of all, a very voluminous outline of the basic concepts of the theory of schemes and the technique of cohomology of coherent sheaves on them. Further, this technique is applied to the theory of curves and surfaces, for which Picard schemes are built and a number of fundamental algebro-geometric facts are proved.
