Submarines of types D and L ("Decembrists" and "Leninists") are rightfully considered stage ships of the Red Fleet. Being the first-born of Soviet shipbuilding, the first submarines designed and built under Soviet rule, during the Great Patriotic War they were actively used in all theaters of operations - both in the Baltic, and in the Black and North Seas, and "Leninists" in 1945 also participated in the war against Japan in the Pacific Ocean - they attacked enemy ships and convoys, put mine banks on enemy communications... For military merits, D-3 received both the Order of the Red Banner and the title of Guards, L-22 became the Red Banner. In memory of the feat of sailors during the Great Patriotic War, the D-2 (Narodovolets) was installed on an eternal parking lot in St. Petersburg as a branch of the Central Naval Museum.
