Five stories and a novel of this collection are united by one hero, shown in childhood, youth and in adulthood. Perhaps, of these six works, a whole novel was formed about the fate of the military generation. This generation met the war from a young age, returned from it as soldiers and lieutenants, and lived in the postwar years. This book was written and published piecemeal in magazines for fifteen years.
