The novel of the Portuguese writer Camilo Castelo Branco (1825-1890) "The Fallen Angel" (1865) was not previously translated into Russian, this is the first attempt to scientifically publish one of the most famous works of the classic of Portuguese literature of the 19th century. In The Fallen Angel, as in many novels by C. Castelo Branco, elements of the literary game are combined with an ironic image of a modern author Portuguese reality. The use of "romantic irony" also allows K. Castell Branco to present from an unexpected point of view a number of "wandering plots" of European literature. As an addition to the novel, the novel by K. Castell Branco "Side Son" (1876) from the cycle "Short Stories from the Province of Minyu" is published in this edition. This work, also published in Russian for the first time, is partly a rethinking of the plot of The Fallen Angel.
