At the heart of any activity is volitional effort, without which nothing happens. Strong-willed effort must be applied skillfully. One need not think that tension and a passionate desire for success are good indicators of volitional effort. On the contrary, this prevents the balance of the mind, and volitional effort is effective only with a good balance of the mind.
