For the first time in Russian literature, the monograph widely covers a range of issues related to the well-known Stone-Weierstrass theorem; provides variants of theorems for various classes of functional spaces, indicates applications to the description of functional lattices and algebras, to the theory of approximation. Along with the already known results placed in various, often hard-to-reach journals, the monograph also provides some new results obtained by the author.
