The word "counterpogon" in tsarist Russia since 1807 was called a narrow fabric patch in the form of a loop located across the shoulder seam on the uniforms of officers. This loop was intended to hold the epaulette on the shoulder. Later, after several decades, when introducing transverse shoulder straps, legislators had a problem with the name of such shoulder straps - after all, the word "counter-shoulder strap" was already taken. I had to invent new definitions: "shoulder marks," "shoulder pads," "shoulder cross marks," "shoulder valves," "short shoulder marks," "cross shoulder straps," etc. The guide-determiner is the first interesting publication on a similar topic.
