This edition publishes in new translations two novels by Dvor Karl IV. and Zaragoza, when Spain was experiencing the last convulsions of the fifth revolution of the XIX century. Galdos, as a sincere patriot, dreamed of seeing the country strong and prosperous. Therefore, Galdos considered turning to the history of the war of independence as his contribution to the struggle for the progress of modern society.
