There are several options for three-lamp superheterodyne receiver circuits. Radio amateurs have long known circuits with a regenerative mesh detector. In such a receiver, you can do with three lamps, but its scheme will not be perfect. Superheterodyne diode detector circuits operating on three lamps are little known to radio amateurs.
