The book describes how the concept of temperature arose and how the temperature scale was created. The basic concepts of thermodynamics and statistical physics are described to the extent that this can be done within the framework of the knowledge of high school students. Special sections are devoted to methods for measuring and obtaining low temperatures, temperatures of such interesting objects as stars and black holes, high-temperature superconductivity.
