The book is devoted to the geometric theory of the icosahedron and is unique in the breadth of the material covered and the skill of its presentation. It is shown how ideas and constructions intertwined in the geometry of the icosahedron, which underlie a number of beautiful theories that subsequently developed into independent branches of mathematics. The theory of equations of the fifth degree based on the geometric properties of the icosahedron is presented.
