The history of nomadic powers is interesting and important for us not only as the past of our land, but also as the beginning of the Russian state. Our ethnic and cultural ties with the nomadic world are apparently much stronger than they were allowed to assume. The passing peoples brought with them the cultural influences of distant Asia-China, India and Persia. "This incessant stream for the history of Russian culture is a phenomenon of paramount importance, which determines the cultural development of Russia and makes the history of the steppes of the south of Russia an integral part of the history of Russia in general, without which the history of Russia will never be understood and appreciated by us" (M. I. Rostovtsev).
