Based on the most subjective source - epistolography - the economic, socio-political and ideological development of Byzantine society of the XIII-XV centuries is characterized. The emphasis is on identifying modifications, changes, shifts in public life, on resolving controversial issues. Attached is a translation from Greek into Russian of 25 late Byzantine letters.
