The civil war in Syria has become one of the most violent and prolonged conflicts resulting from the so-called "Arab Spring" - a series of coups that swept across Arab countries in the spring of 2011 and entailed serious geopolitical shifts not only in the Middle East region, but also in the world as a whole (in particular, the refugee problem that has swept Europe today is also the result of those events).
