This book is the first etymological dictionary of the English language in Russia. The purpose of the dictionary is to identify the original metaphorical character images (often long forgotten in modern languages), which formed the basis of the meaning of a particular English word and motivated its meaning. The dictionary uses the latest etymologizing methods - both linguistic (accounting for preformants and taboo negatives in a word, etc.) and culturally historical (accounting for ancient symbolism) - allowing you to trace the various stages of changing the meaning of a word and explain - within the framework of the history of culture - the connection of different meanings with each other.
