The publication is based on a book of poems by Vasily Kapnist (1758-1823) reconstructed from archival sources stored at the Institute of Russian Literature and the National Library of Ukraine, prepared by him for publication in 1820, but not published. For the first time, the structure of the book is reproduced (dedication, preface of 45 poetic translations of Horace's odes, 45 Latin originals, interlinear translations and Kapnist's comments on them). For the first time, interlinear prose translations and a complete corpus of Kapnist's comments on odes are published. The book is accompanied by an introductory article and commentary by the compiler, as well as a selection of Kapnist's poems thematically related to his Horacian arrangements.
